Ha hai Manu~We see again the contemporary version of an ancient idenity interwoven in a metaphore. the Ali'i's cape; the Ahu Ula,  was hand knitted with precious feathers hand picked by selected Hawaiian Ohana, (families) known as 'bird catchers'. These families, once in position to capture the bird were skilled in stealth in caves, and being silent. They then  immersed their poles in the  sticky sap of pupala kepau bush. Once captured they picked a precious few feathers under the birds wing, then they were kept in a carefully constructed basket, and ultimately released.
