“Honu & Wa’a” ~ Turtle of Pelekunu Molokai
There is an ancient village on the northern coastin Molokai known Pelekunu Bay. In that village there is a family whose aumakua (family guardian) is the Honu (white turtle). If you look to the seabed you can see the fishing ground of the village.The mo'olelo (ancient Hawaiian story) of this painting is a tale of the aumakua guiding a young boy on his wa'a (canoe) to their secret fishing ground.‘Ohana’ families respect this Honu as a creature of great power and wisdom. You can identify and feel the turtle’s soul and see the wisdom in the depths of his eyes.
