Kaʻeo ~ The Fish Spotter
In the village of Kepuhi on the west end of Molokai, in Kaluako’i, there was a man named Kaʻeo that was renowned and respected by all those of the village. Their health and welfare depended on his keen eyes! He was a fish spotter. As dawn was breaking, he would perch upon the high stones to spot the fish. With an expert eye he watched for the movement in the water and studied the sea birds that dove for the large schools of fish. He was known to spot fishes more than a mile away. With accuracy he signaled the fisherman who would take their boats out to return with a plentiful catch for the village.
